Video: Two Royal Navy Warships Collide In Bahrain Port While Docking

Reports mentioned that two UK vessels contributing to the Gulf’s maritime security collided at a Bahrain port. The two warships belonging to the Royal Navy, the HMS Chiddingfold and the HMS Bangor, were reportedly hit while docking at the port off the Bahrain coast on Jan 18, sparking an examination by the Royal Navy.

Video footage of the latest marine mishap has circulated on social media platforms that appeared to reflect the HMS Chiddingfold reversing into the HMS Bangor. No injuries had been reported among the Bangor’s crew, comprising 39, including mine warfare experts and mine clearance divers. Still, the vessel sustained significant damages, with a big hole ripped in the hull. HMS Chiddingfold was stuck in reverse, mentioned the Mail Online, per an unnamed source.

The Chiddingfold was involved in one more crash in 2021. The Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel used by the Navy since 1984 collided with the HMS Penzance, a vessel that belongs to the same class as that of Bangor, also off the coast of Bahrain. Both ships, serving as specialist minesweepers, collaborate to maintain trade flow in the Gulf.

An incident concerning two mine hunters in Bahrain was observed. A Ministry of Defence spokesperson informed BBC News that there are zero casualties due to this incident, and it’d be inappropriate to comment while the investigations are ongoing. Grant Shapps, the UK’s Secretary of State for Defence, was in denial that incompetence would be the cause to blame for the recent crash. It is not referred to incompetence when one sees an aircraft come down, a rare occasion, just as this one too would be a rare occasion; it is right to leave the examiners some time to work out what’s gone wrong, he informed the Sky News.

Rear Adm. Edward Ahlgren stated that the cause behind the collision is yet to be assessed. Individuals are trained to the highest standards, and machinery safety standards are rigorously enforced; however, incidents of this sort can keep happening, he informed the PA news agency.
