The Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) course provides mechanical engineering graduates an opportunity to take up one year course and enter merchant navy by becoming a marine engineer.

In order to become a marine engineer after doing mechanical engineering, one needs to do a compulsory 1-year Graduate marine engineering course.

In India, this course is offered by 20 institutes which are approved by the Directorate General of Shipping. They are mentioned below.

  107. @Kamalpreet: DG shipping approval is an important factor for companies giving jobs to the candidates. DG shipping has already canceled operation of many similar institutes.

Out of 20 how many institutes provide placement this is one of business leading institutes I am not saying all some institutes giving placement for cadet good .my question is really given placement even 1percent given or not that one also doubts there are not encourage to education they need money y bcoz they build there business.

  124. @Thakur: Not CET. You need to appear for the entrance test conducted by the institute. For e.g., Shipping Corporation of India conducts All India online test, and after successfully qualifying the same you will be called for the interview.

  134. @N. Prakash: With your qualification, you are eligible to join as an electrical engineer officer or ETO on ships. For becoming a marine engineer, you need to have a mechanical degree to complete a 1-year course.

  136. @Vinod: Yes, SCI is pretty good, However, no company will give you job guarantee unless you are a true performer.
