Christina Haack Addresses Josh Hall Break Up in ‘The Flip Off’ Premiere: ‘He Doesn’t Like Me’

Christina Haack is dealing with another major shakeup in her personal life in the series premiere of her new HGTV show. In The Flip Off, the designer and mom of three is competing against her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his new wife Heather Rae El Moussa to see who can get the biggest ROI on a flip.

Originally, The Flip Off was supposed to be a couple-vs.-couple contest, with Christina and her husband Josh Hall facing off against Tarek and Heather. But that plan changed shortly after the contest began when Christina and Josh split. In The Flip Off’s first episode, Christina opens up about what led to the end of her third marriage.

Christina tells Tarek about her troubled marriage in ‘The Flip Off’

When The Flip Off begins, Christina and Josh are still together. Together, they choose a house to flip – a decrepit, trash-strewn four-bedroom in Carson, Calif., that will need major work to make it livable. At first, Josh is all in on the competition, happily agreeing to do the cleanup himself to save money for renovations. But cracks soon emerge, with Josh getting testy over small issues.

Not long after, Christina calls Tarek and asks him to come over for a personal chat.

“Josh and I officially split up,” she tells her ex-husband.

“We had a blow up over nothing. Truly nothing. In my face. Middle fingers in my face,” the Christina on the Coast star tearfully confesses. “Things with Josh have been bad for a long time. Not just kind of bad, like bad. And the kids literally asked me to leave. They told me he’s not nice to me.”

One thing that tended to set Josh off? His wife’s cordial relationship with Tarerk, with whom she shares two kids.

“You make him very insecure,” Christina said to Tarek. “Every time we would barely joke at soccer, or if I laughed at you, he would not speak to me for two or three days. I would get silent treatment. He doesn’t like me. He called me cocky, thinks I’m arrogant, when we both know I’m not cocky or arrogant.”

Tarek says his ex-wife is ‘a great human’

Tarek and Christina went through their own nasty divorce after separating in 2016, with Tarek later admitting that he wasn’t the best husband or father when he was younger. But the one-time couple are on much better terms now. As Christina opens up about the end of her latest marriage, Tarek is nothing but supportive.

“You’re not any of those things,” Tarek replies after Christina opens up about Josh’s insults. “He’s projecting. You’re a great mother, you’re a great daughter, you’re a great human.”

“It’s like I’m in a tornado all the time and I just can’t get out of it,” Christina replies, before going on to say that she has a habit of “getting into things too fast that I know aren’t right.”

The mom of three reflected on her tendency to leap from relationship to relationship in an interview with producers. (She was also married to Ant Anstead from 2018 to 2020.) In an interview segment, she explained that she never wanted to be a person who got divorced and said she felt it was “safer” to be in a relationship.

“Ultimately, that was not safe either,” she says.

Christina feels better about competing on ‘The Flip Off’ without Josh

Christina and Josh filed for divorce in July 2024. Their split still isn’t resolved, and Christina recently said she expected they’d have to go to trial because her ex, a former Santa Monica police officer, was refusing mediation.

While she’s still dealing with the fallout from her latest marriage, Christina says she feels not having Josh on her team could actually help her beat Tarek and Heather.

“It’s a huge weight lifted off of my not to have to do it with Josh,” she says. “That was more of a stressor to me to have to feel like I was going to have to battle Josh throughout and like, emasculate him and all the words that come out when a woman knows what she’s doing.”

Christina Haack spotted with new boyfriend after Josh Hall split

Christina and Josh announced their split in July 2024, after just over two years of marriage. Their divorce is ongoing. During a recent appearance on Jeff Lewis Live, Christina — who has hired celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser — said her estranged husband is refusing mediation and that they were likely headed to trial.

“He doesn’t want to do mediation,” she said. “It’s going to be fun.”

Despite the difficult breakup, Christina has not put her life on hold. Her new HGTV show premieres Jan. 29. In The Flip Off, she goes up against her ex Tarek El Moussa and his new wife Heather Rae El Moussa to see who can get the biggest ROI on a flip. She’s also started dating again. In early January, the Daily Mail reported that Christina and Chris Larocca attended a Christmas party together in Orange County.

“Christina has been dating Chris Larocca for a few months now,” a source told the tabloid. “They’re always together and out and about around Newport. They even have traveled abroad and visited other countries together.”

So, who is the new man in Christina’s life? While he keeps his online presence low-key, his LinkedIn profile reveals that he is the president and CEO of Network Connex, a company that provides “mission-critical network deployment solutions in fiber optics, data centers, wireless and video networks.” He graduated from Clemson University and has an MBA from the University of Southern California.

According to the Daily Mail, Chris has a teenage daughter with his ex-wife, whom he divorced in 2015. Prior to getting involved with Christina, he was dating a Florida influencer named Andrea, who told the publication that he lavished her with expensive gifts and gave her cash to start a swimwear business.

While Christina has already jumped into a new relationship, she has no intention of saying “I do” in the near future, a source told Life & Style.

“Christina had a very tumultuous breakup with Josh, she’s still going through it, but at the end of the day, she deserves happiness,” the insider said. “And you have to give her credit for not giving up on love. She’s already told friends not to worry, she won’t be rushing into another marriage. She’s learned her lesson, now she says she wants to be engaged for at least five years.”

Days after slamming her third husband during an interview on Jeff Lewis Live, the HGTV star took to Instagram to clarify how she really felt about his new relationship with model Stephanie Gabrys, saying that she could not care less about how Josh lived his life.

Christina filed for divorce from Josh in July 2024, after a little more than two years of marriage. Their bitter divorce battle has played out in public, with Christina recently telling Lewis that Josh was refusing to do mediation, which meant that they were likely headed to trial.

“It’s going to be fun,” she said sarcastically during the Jan. 13 episode of the Radio Andy show. “Can’t wait.”

The former Flip or Flop star also said that when she gave Josh money for living expenses, he spent it on a Bentley.

The same day, Josh went Instagram official with his new girlfriend. Through a spokesperson, he also responded to Christina’s comments about their split.

“It’s sad Christina must resort to low blows about her ex Josh to promote her new show,” the representative told Us Weekly. “She should focus on her new boyfriend and stop talking about Josh. As the great Mariah Carey once sang, ‘Why you so obsessed with me?’ We wish Christina the best.

“Christina knows nothing about Josh’s life, and it’s sad she keeps speculating,” the rep added. “Her accusations are baseless.”

Christina says Josh has hit ‘a new low’ in their divorce fight

On Jan. 15, Christina shared a screenshot of an article containing Josh’s statement on her Instagram Story.

“I just threw up in my mouth,” she wrote. “Quoting a Mariah Carey song is a new low … even for you.”

“Trust me idgaf about Josh’s life,” the Christina on the Coast star added. “I do however care about his bts tactics. Narcissism at its finest.”

While Christina is navigating an ugly divorce, she is apparently looking ahead to the future. The mom of three is reportedly dating Christopher LaRocca, an executive of a company based in Orange County.

Christina is also focused on the premiere of her new show, The Flip Off. That series will follow Christina as she goes head-to-head against her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his new wife Heather Rae El Moussa in a competition to see who can create the better flip. Josh was originally supposed to appear in the show alongside Christina, but he was dropped from the program following their split. The Flip Off premieres Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on HGTV.

Luke and Steph face major challenges as they renovate their boutique hotel property in Jacó, Costa Rica, which they purchased sight unseen. From navigating the construction and renovation process in a foreign country to financial pressures to the discovery that some of the hotel’s rooms are completely beyond repair, the couple have their work cut out for them as they attempt to turn their dreams into reality.

“We’ve gambled everything on this hotel, and we’re all in,” said Luke. “We don’t have anything to fall back on at this point.”

So, did Luke and Steph complete their renovation? Spoiler alert: Yes. Hotel Amavi is up and running. The boutique hotel has been welcoming guests since spring 2024.

The property is located within walking distance of the beach, and guest rooms are individually decorated in a vibrant, bohemian style. You might assume that a stay at Hotel Amavi comes with a steep sticker price, but room rates are surprisingly affordable.

Pool rooms, which sleep up to four people, are $169 per night, as are garden rooms, which sleep two. Larger casita suites ($269 per night) are perfect for families, with amenities such as kitchens/kitchenettes and a private garden. A picture-perfect honeymoon suite ($269 per night) comes with a kitchenette and dining table, cozy lounge area, and open-concept bathroom. The six-episode, Renovation Island-esque show – which premieres Jan. 7 – follows Luke Shantz and Steph Sitt as they work to transform a crumbling hotel in a seaside community into a luxurious travel destination. The stakes, both financial and personal, are high, but the potential rewards are tremendous. Now, they and their two young children have relocated to the Central American country to pursue their biggest project yet. To turn the run-down spot into a luxe boutique hotel, Luke and Steph have turned to friends and investors for financial support. If they fail, they face financial ruin.

“We’ve gambled everything on this hotel, and we’re all in,” said Luke. “We don’t have anything to fall back on at this point.”

“The motel is closed, so money is going out and nothing is coming in,” said Steph. “We need to open as soon as possible, because right now we’re just in the red.”

Can the ‘Betting on Paradise’ couple make their dreams come true?

In the series premiere of Betting on Paradise, Luke and Steph get a first look at their big purchase, and what they find is unsettling. There’s damage at every turn, and some of the hotel’s rooms are completely beyond repair. As they begin to navigate a complex renovation process in a foreign country, they confront the start of the area’s rainy season as they imagine what the hotel could look like in its finished state.

Throughout Betting on Paradise, Luke and Steph manage a massive overhaul of the property, which features nine guest rooms, including a honeymoon suite and two casitas, a lobby, and pool with an outdoor bar. At the same time, they’ll explore their new home with their two daughters and prepare for their own intimate seaside wedding.

Whatever happens, Luke and Steph can’t wait for people to follow them on their one-of-a-kind journey.

It’s a battle of the exes at HGTV. Former Flip or Flop stars Christina Haack and Tarek El Moussa will face off in The Flip Off, premiering Jan. 25. The one-time couple will compete to see who can bag the biggest flip. On hand to judge their efforts will be various reality stars, including one of Christina’s other ex-husbands – Ant Anstead of Wheeler Dealers.

For nearly a decade, Tarek and Christina starred in HGTV’s hit series Flip or Flop. In 2013, the then-married couple turned their business of flipping houses in Orange County into reality TV gold. Even though their marriage ended in 2017, the show continued for several more years, finally wrapping up its 10-season run in 2022.

Since Flip or Flop ended, both Tarek and Christina have continued with solo HGTV shows. She stars in Christina on the Coast, while he and his new wife, Selling Sunset star Heather Rae El Moussa, appear on The Flipping El Moussas. Now, the former couple will share the screen again in a new, six-episode show that challenges each to find, buy, renovate, and flip a house for the biggest financial gain. Tarek will compete as part of a team with Heather, while Christina is on her own. (She was originally supposed to appear on the show with her estranged husband Josh Hall.) The winner gets bragging rights as well as a first-class vacation paid for by the loser.

Ant Anstead will be a judge on ‘The Flip Off’

While Josh Hall won’t be seen on The Flip Off, another one of Christina’s former husbands will be part of the show. Ant Anstead and Christina were married from December 2018 to September 2020. They have one child, a boy named Hudson.

Anstead will be one of the handpicked special guest judges who evaluate Tarek and Christina’s work. Other judges include Heather Dubrow from The Real Housewives of Orange County, Amanza Smith from Selling Sunset, Izz Battres from Izzy Does It, former Flip or Flop contractor Jeff Lawrence, Jeff Lewis of Hollywood Houselift, and Tarke and Christina’s moms, Dominique El Moussa and Laurie Haack.

The competition between the exes on The Flip Off is sure to be intense.

“Tarek, Heather and I have all been through a lot of stuff together, and we are all highly competitive,” Christina said. “Tarek is the self-proclaimed ‘best flipper in the world,’ but, honestly, give me a break. I can’t wait to smoke them at their own game.”

Christina is confident she has what it takes to win, but Tarek insists he’s going to give her a run for her money.

“When it comes to distressed real estate, I own the space and Christina doesn’t stand a chance,” Tarek said. “It all comes down to this — who’s going to rise higher from the ashes of everything that we burned to the ground?”

Heather says her unique background will give her and Tarek an edge.

“I come from high-end real estate, and now I’ve been flipping houses with Tarek for the last few years,” she said. “It’s my time to show how hard I’ve worked on my designs, and, more than anything, I want to prove that we can beat Christina.”

In a sneak peak from the first episode (via People), Christina breaks down when she tells Tarek her third marriage is over.

“Josh and I officially split up,” she says, adding that they had a massive blow up that involved “middle fingers in the face.” The reality TV star adds that her two older kids, whom she shares with Tarek, asked her why she stayed with Josh when he wasn’t “nice” to her.

“I feel like I’m in a tornado all the time and I just can’t get out of it,” she says. “Everything since, like 2016, has been so hard and so horrible.”

The Flip Off premieres Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on HGTV.

She has taken heat from critics in the process of trying to pick up the pieces, and in a sneak peek of her new show with ex-husband Tarek El Moussa, she broke down to him.

Christina has a good relationship with Tarek and his wife, Heather El Moussa, and Heather recently revealed that the three of them will spend Christmas together this year for the “first time.”

In 2022, Christina surprised fans by marrying Josh Hall, but the romance didn’t last. The couple filed for divorce in July 2024, and Christina told Tarek in a clip from the upcoming show The Flip Off that things with Josh were “bad” for a long time. Now, as the holidays approach, Christina and Tarek will be spending them together for the first time in a long time — as a blended family.

“We usually have [Tarek and Christina’s kids on] Christmas day. She has them Christmas Eve, but [this year] I think we’re gonna spend Christmas Eve together,” Heather said in an interview with Us Weekly. “[For] one of the first times.” Tarek and Heather’s son, Tristan, will also be in attendance, of course.

Tarek and Christina are back, but this time, Heather is also in the mix. The three seem to get along so well, and they’re now hosting a new HGTV show called The Flip Off, during which they will essentially compete to see who has the better flip.

Christina later said that it was “easier” to film without him. Fans are excited to see Tarek and Christina on such good terms, and they’re thankful that Christina and Heather have such a close relationship.

The exes share a daughter and son, Taylor and Brayden, and they have always remained friendly for their kids. But Christina moved on from Tarek quickly, marrying ex-husband Ant Anstead and welcoming a son, Hudson (the two announced their breakup in 2020), which fans always assumed caused tension in her already-strained relationship with Tarek.

In a new clip from The Flip Off, a tearful Christina is seen apologizing to Tarek over “s***” she caused years earlier.

During the conversation, Christina was telling Tarek that she and ex Josh Hall had officially split up. And later in the conversation, she references her past relationship with Tarek. “I’m really sorry for s*** too,” Christina says. “I really am. I just want you to know.”

Tarek’s response is one fans might not have expected. He appears to take responsibility for the couple’s split. “I understand that feeling of being a little bit lost,” he says to Christina. “And I acknowledge that I’m a big part, if not the entire part, of all of this.”

When asked how they make their marriage work, Chelsea insisted that she likes to be “intentional” with the time they spend together. She noted that even when they can just carve out time for lunch together, they use it to connect. She went on to insist she is thankful for her marriage every day. On the other hand, Cole insists that marriage is not particularly hard for him. He advises those heading into a partnership to avoid being selfish and to recognize that they are living their life with their best friend by their side.

According to the pair, they had a chance encounter at a gas station in their home state of South Dakota in 2014. They began dating briefly later and were ready to seal the deal a year later. They announced their engagement in November 2015 and walked down the aisle in October 2016.

Chelsea and Cole welcomed their first child together, Watson, in 2017. Layne joined the family the following year, and Walker’s birth was announced in 2021. Chelsea’s child from a previous relationship, Aubree, was born in 2009.
